The Opportunity
Port of Newcastle is seeking a Permanent Part-Time (0.6) Dredge Crew Member to join the crew aboard our dredge vessel, David Allan. In this hands-on role, you will support the safe and efficient operation of the vessel while contributing to the maintenance of Newcastle Harbour's navigational channels.
Reporting to the Dredge Master, you will assist with dredging operations, perform routine inspections and maintenance activities, and ensure all work is carried out in a safe, efficient and seamanlike manner. As a valued member of the dredge crew, you will play an important role in maintaining our strong safety culture and supporting the reliable operation of the vessel.
What You'll Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of small vessels, along with a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
You will also have:
- A Coxswain Grade 1 NC Certificate or Integrated Rating Certificate (essential)
- A strong understanding of maritime operations, preferably within a port environment
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to complete reports and maintain accurate records
- The ability to work 12-hour shifts and be available across a seven-day roster
- Experience in a maritime port environment (desirable)
